Whenever replacing the turbine wheel, whether using the complete cartridge replacement unit or simply rebuilding the turbo with a rebuild kit and the turbine wheel / shaft, it will be necessary to bead blast the turbine housing to remove any rust, soot and scale. The tolerances between the housing and wheel can be measured in thousandths of an inch therefore any irregularities or scale will cause the wheel to bind up on the housing during installation and can damage the new turbine wheel.
